Solo Pastor

First Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, NY seeks a full-time Pastor who will lead us as we share the joy and good news of Jesus Christ with our members, guests, and the community at large.  All are welcome to gather here and celebrate God’s word through music, prayer, reflection, and forward-thinking preaching.

To the pastor called to serve us, we offer a minimum compensation of $60,000 (minimum), plus housing allowance, extensive benefits including a retirement plan, death and disability plans, paid medical, vacation, continuing education, moving expenses, maternity, and paternity leave (all negotiable).

Duties:

  • Lead the congregation in worship with inspiring sermons; and conduct baptisms, marriages, funerals, and communion 

  • Lead the Session and staff in their work to fulfill our mission and live out God’s word.

  • Provide pastoral care for all members

  • Develop a rapport with all members, of all ages and backgrounds and grow our participation and Christian education program

  • Inspire others to share in God’s work at First Pres by serving on committees, Session and other volunteer efforts

  • Support and grow ties with neighbor churches, community programs, and agencies

Requirements:

  • Compassionate bridge builder with exceptional communication skills allowing for development of relationships with the church, the community and the Presbytery

  • Leadership experience to guide the work of Session and staff members

  • Spiritually mature, theologically sound understanding and practice

  • Appreciation and support for the importance of music as a part of worship

  • Successful completion of Masters in Divinity Degree

  • Experience leading and facilitating change so that we may remain relevant in the lives of the congregation and the surrounding community in sharing the word of God  

  • Strong administrative and organizational background

The First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown, NY was founded in 1834 and in 1926 the congregation began worshipping in our current building. First Pres is located in the heart of Jamestown, NY. We are fortunate to be fiscally sound.  Jamestown is best known historically for furniture manufacturing and as the birthplace and home of Lucille Ball, naturalist Roger Tory Peterson, Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson and more recently, Ten Thousand Maniacs and Eagles Coach Nick Sirianni.  Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Lake are highlights in our area which offer both significant cultural and natural resources.  We are blessed to live where we do.

Administrative Assistant

Front Office:

· Receptionist: answer phones, emails, and texts, transfer to appropriate staff, assist visitors, and log activity.

· Collaborate with coworkers to improve internal communication and engage with the congregation and community.

· Gather calendar commitments from committees and staff, maintain the church calendar, and inform appropriate staff of activities.

· Manage building usage, scheduling set-up and tear-down for meetings and events in coordination with the Building Manager.

· Maintain membership and attendance records.

Pastor Support:

· Provide administrative support to Pastor, including providing channel of communication between Session, committees, Pastor, and staff.

· Support work of Session and committees as needed.

· Assist Pastor in coordinating pastoral care visits, responding to member needs (illness, deaths, etc.)

· Draft reports and correspondence as necessary. Maintain files.

· Maintain and order office materials and supplies for committees, worship, and special events as required.

· Coordinate contact with prospective members.

Communications:

· Maintain compassionate and creative communications in person and virtually.

· Maintain the website and Facebook page, and update the newsletter weekly using templates.

· Leverage social media for the benefit of the church and its members.

· Notify press of services & special events

· Email/distribute weekly bulletins, newsletters and other documents as requested.

· Assist with production of special events promotional materials.

· Other duties as assigned by the Pastor

Qualities required:

· Must be pleasant, discreet, tactful, and capable of honoring confidential communications.

· Must be able to deal in a professional manner with various types of personalities, on the phone and email, and in person.

· Must be proficient with computers and comfortable using social media, Word, Excel, and publishing software.

· Must be organized, a team player, a self-starter and a problem solver.

Job Type: Part-time Pay: $17.00 per hour
