Worship FAQ

Welcome! We are glad you are here!  This is a place to get to know First Presbyterian better. We invite you to look around and join us for worship in person or livestream.

  • We are located at 509 Prendergast Avenue in Jamestown, New York.

  • There is a large parking lot across the street from the church on the corner of 6th Street and Prendergast Avenue. We also have handicap parking in a small lot behind the church off of Prendergast Avenue. Street parking is available as well.

  • The main entrance is on Prendergast Avenue but you may also enter on the side door off of 6th Street.

  • We have ushers at the doors to greet, direct, and hand out the bulletins.

  • Yes! Please enter on the side door off of 6th street. We also have large print hymnals, and amplified headphones.

  • Generally service will last an hour.

  • The Organ Prelude each week at 10:15 am offers a time of personal preparation for worship in the quiet beauty of the Sanctuary. As worship begins at 10:30 am all gathered are invited to use the bulletin to guide you through worship. Prayers and hymns preceding and following the sermon prepare our hearts and minds to connect to the Triune God – Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit. Choral hymns are chosen to lift the hearts of worshippers and reinforce the message in scripture and song.

  • The Presbyterian Church USA observes open communion—all are welcome whether they are members of the Presbyterian Church or not. Sometimes we come forward to receive communion and sometimes we stay seated. We celebrate communion once a month and offer individual servings of grape juice or wine along with bread. A gluten free option is also available.

  • No worries! You may remain seated during this time.

  • We use the Glory of God purple hymnal book.

  • We encourage all ages to be a part of worship. We regularly invite children to gather up front and join the pastor to participate in a children’s message. There are busy bags for the children to borrow while in service that are located at the sanctuary entrance.

A Pray-Ground is available for younger children offering a designated place in the front of the sanctuary where young children can experience worship through age-appropriate worship materials and tools that will help keep them engaged in what is happening. Learn More About Pray-Grounds

  • Yes, we hold worship in the chapel for a non-formal and intimate feel. The main door off Prendergast Avenue is locked in summer. Please use the side door off of 6th Street.
